2017 Special House Election in Utah

This November there is a special election for a house seat in Utah’s 3rd Congressional District, which was vacated when Jason Chaffetz announced his resignation from the House of Representatives on May 19, 2017. A special election was called to replace him with primaries occurring in August. John R. Curtis, the Mayor of Provo, won the Republican nomination over 15 candidates, with physician Kathie Allen winning the Democratic nomination. Also running for the seat are United Utah Party candidate Jim Bennet, Jason Christensen of the Independent American Party and Libertarian Joe Buchman.

The general election will be held on November 7, 2017.

2017 Special Senate Election in Alabama

This December there is a special election for a Senate seat in Alabama which became vacant when incumbent United States Senator Jeff Sessions resigned from the Senate to serve as United States Attorney General on February 8, 2017. Luther Strange, the Attorney general of Alabama filled the seat at Governor Robert J. Bentley’s request until a special election would take place. The special election was scheduled for 2018, but when Governor Bentley resigned in April 2017, the election was rescheduled. Primaries took place in August and September, with Doug Jones winning the Democratic nomination and Roy Moore defeating Luther Strange in the Republican primary.

The general election is scheduled for December 12, 2017.
